A news report on cities banning plastic straws reminded me of the stash in our makerspace. (Funny how inspiration works.) Once I have the name of the project I think will interest the kids, I like to search for PDF instructions. The plans from the Society of Biology and the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago are different enough I made copies of both so students could experiment with their own iterations. Then my student library assistant found this plan of a pool noodle hand. Since it came through Pinterest, I couldn't find the original source. Unbeknownst to me, our incredible art teacher had been working with constructed hands also, so kids had time to really play with making them operate.
