There are two skylights in our library. They have a lip where things can get caught. When students "accidentally" got a card stuck, instead of getting mad, I asked them to figure out how to get it down. They borrowed yardsticks, duct tape, an old CD (for a mirror), a dusting handle, a ladder, and anything else at the ready. Over several days, they tried at least six iterations of card retrieving tools. The audience grew--as did the suggestions. To avoid a fire hazard, we finally had to call in the big ladder and our custodian. But I am proud of the fortitude and creative energy put forth.
