Inspired by Yayoi Kusama

Dana Carmichael

This is the first in a monthly makerspace experience looking at masters in art, engineering, and design. I read about Yayoi Kusama in Smithsonian Magazine a few years ago. Then I saw her on a program by PBS (maybe Art 21). I love that her pieces are joyful and that she overcame many obstacles to become an artist. This short video clip could be shown to students, but be aware that depression and adult themes may limit the ages of the audience. In this photo a student takes a recycled cylinder painted in one of three fall colors, and adds Kusama inspired dots. Students also used craft gords and glue and glitter for a total of three projects in one hour.
