After working in groups with Legos and Keva Planks, I found inspiration in the pantry and brought sturdy waxed cardboard paper plates in for a 10-15 minute construction challenge. With scissors, clear tape, and glue sticks, students bent, cut, and tore pieces to make a building. The variety is astounding. One girl tried to cut scales to construct a replica of the Sydney Opera House. We had conical shapes, a few boat houses, and even an outhouse (with a cresent moon on the door). I really like the garage door on this simple dome house.
