Snap Circuits

Dana Carmichael

Before students arrived I organized the parts into gadgets (lights, speakers, music pieces), power supply boxes and batteries and switches, then a table with all the connectors and resistors, I also looked it up a Youtube to share. My teenage son had thrown his two large Snap Circuit kits in the garage. The local toy store discounted two small kits to supplement what I had from home. Now I will start a Snap Circuits drive through the PTA. Replacement parts are also available here. Before students broke into small groups we talked about +,- current, creating a circuit, short-circuits, power, and insulation. Students had access to a parts list and Do's and Don'ts of Building Circuits from the Electronic Snap Circuits: Projects 102-305. But I did not let them use the booklets to begin with. Only after the groups had made a simple light circuit did I let them refer to the booklets for inspiration in making more complex circuits. The biggest obstacle was trying to use the speakers without the red and black cables!
